Social Responsibility (CSR)

AVeS Cyber Security aims to actively participate in focused initiatives throughout South Africa, some of which are highlighted below.

We believe that is our responsibility to #MakeADifference in our country by sharing our experiences and resources with the people in our communities.

How to get involved

If there is an organisation doing amazing things in your community who could benefit from our IT expertise, let us know.

Some of our CSR beneficiaries

Shiloh Synergy operates in underprivileged communities in the Western and Eastern Cape.

What they do

Shiloh builds and operates pre-primary schools. Based on teaching principles set out in Montessori curricula, they aim to “reach one million disadvantaged children through excellent education.” According to Shiloh, “Approximately 4 million children under the age of 7 in South Africa are not attending preschool. This puts them at a significant disadvantage on their first day of primary school and for the rest of their lives, in effect making them vulnerable. We cater to vulnerable children between the ages of 3 to 6 years. All children enrolled at a Jubilee Excellence School across the country receive excellent education, nutrition and care on a daily basis.”

Why we got involved:

Since April 2015, we’ve helped secure Shiloh’s IT environment by providing them with annual internet security licences and related services. Like any other school, they deal with sensitive information that needs to be protected from cyber criminals. In securing their digital information, they can focus on taking care of the kids’ emotional, social and physical wellbeing, which has a direct effect on the kids’ overall development and their professional potential as adults.

The Autism Connect Learning Centre teaches, supports and guides children with autism.

What they do

Focusing on early childhood development, the focus on child-specific interventions to help children become school-ready.

Why we got involved:

Since September 2015, we’ve been involved in training their staff to manage their IT environment to reduce first-line IT support costs for the organisation. Through our IT Training Academy (now called People Enablement), we’ve seen how empowering individuals through technology-specific and role-specific training can impact an organisation’s staff morale, operational efficiency and business readiness to take on new IT projects.

CuriosITy is an annual fundraising initiative by Brescia House School’s Microsoft Student Ambassadors.

What they do

The CuriosITy annual gala dinner is organised and hosted by Brescia House School’s Microsoft Student Ambassadors, a programme that intends to encourage girls to pursue a career in IT. The programme sets out to inspire and motivate girl-students nearing matric to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields by giving them access to a network of like-minded peers, industry-led mentors, training and leadership development opportunities.

Why we got involved:

IT as a profession is practised by far more men than women, globally. In 2016, we decided to sponsor girls studying IT or CAT (Computer Applications Technology) to attend the CuriosITy event, discuss the IT career landscape with them and learn about type of IT-related training occurring in schools. Based on the event, one of the teachers invited us to conduct security awareness training for three groups of students (Gr 10, 11 and 12) to share insights on how to engage with technology responsibly, which is a vital skill for every person (especially Digital Natives) in the world of zeros and ones.
