AVeS creates tailormade backup solution for Afrisam

Leading information security specialist AVeS is providing cement and concrete manufacturer Afrisam with a more streamlined and cost-effective method of creating a centralised backup strategy, through the implementation of Symantec Backup Exec 2012. Symantec Backup Exec 2012 is designed to simplify backup and disaster recovery, while recovering data and systems. What’s more, it is powered by Symantec V-Ray technology, which provides customers with additional visibility into virtual machines and applications.
AVeS managing director Charl Ueckermann points out that Backup Exec 2012 has saved Afrisam between 50 and 60 percent on licensing costs. “Previous versions of Backup Exec were based on a ‘per server’ or ‘per agent’ licensing agreement, which proved to be costly. Backup Exec 2012, however, is based on a ‘per terabyte’ model, thereby ensuring substantial savings.”

Ueckermann explains that the AVeS sets itself apart from its competitors, due to the fact that it places a high priority on providing value-added professional services that complement its products, thereby providing a full and holistic service to its clients. “Products and licenses can be purchased anywhere, however, the high level of skills and expertise of the AVeS team enables the client to leverage maximum value from the hardware or software that they have purchased,” he explains.

According to Ueckermann, AVeS aims to identify solutions that are beyond security offerings and that actually enable its clients to reach their full potential. “Furthermore, we strive to find that balance between what we provide to a client on site, at the most affordable cost, and what we offer as a cloud solution, resulting in a customised solution for each client.” This is clearly evident in the fact that AVeS integrated the Backup Exec 2012 solution into a VMware stack, in order to ensure a second level recovery of virtual machines for Afrisam. “The solution caters for virtual machines and any additional guests and, in so doing, has reduced administration and management costs,” he continues.

Utilising the latest deduplication technology, AVeS also enabled substantial disc based retention, which increased virtual storage capabilities tenfold for Afrisam, adds Ueckermann. “Backup Exec 2012 provides integrated duplication and archiving – which helps to eliminate backup windows, while enabling data centre replication to disaster recovery sites. Powerful encryption with 128-‐bit or 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption to disk or tape-‐based storage devices ensures that critical data is secure, whether in transit or at rest.”

Ueckermann highlights the fact that Backup Exec 2012 offers comprehensive backup and recovery, which reduces the complexity of protecting a company’s most valuable asset – its data. “Whether that data resides on a Windows file server, on a desktop, virtual machine or on a critical application server like Exchange, SQL, or SharePoint – Backup Exec 2012 provides complete protection and recovery for the entire infrastructure, with a single solution.”

Ueckerman adds that AVeS is committed to providing its clients with a value-added service offering. “We offer our clients a full consultation service, in order to establish their individual needs moving forward. As one of Symantec’s longest-standing local partners, AVeS clients are provided with full access to a global pool of expertise, ultimately ensuring the highest efficiency in the quickest possible turnaround times,” he concludes.
