IRCA Global is a leading Risk Management solutions provider in the areas of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality. They Assess, Advise and Assist clients to address the avoidance of loss in a cost effective and practical manner through high quality systems, products and services. With a high reliance on system response and uptime the client had made various attempts through different service providers to ensure that the core business applications, delivered through Microsoft technologies, were brought to an acceptable standard. Coupled with a complicated and intrusive migration strategy to a new hardware stack a simpler and more streamlines approach would be key to the deployment.
Migration approach
After an audit was completed to understand the business requirements, a correctly resourced hardware platform was procured to handle the current and expected loads of the business. To avoid the complications associated to a full application rebuild, AVeS highlighted a migration through the conversion of the existing platform to the new hardware solution through the use of a Physical to Virtual conversion
Solution
The new platform was loaded with Hyper-V Server 2012 and the existing server was migrated. Using the flexibility of Hyper-V the resources assigned to the virtual server were increased and the expected system speeds were achieved.
Final outcomes
Users within the organisation immediately noted the increase in day to day functionality of the service platform demonstrating a clear win. With the inclusion of a solid virtual layer separating the application and hardware stack, we effectively eliminated the often complicated migration associated to hardware updates for the client.
