What Drives Data Security Successes in Organisations: Products or Services?

The launch of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 affords us the opportunity to relook at organisations’ data security posture from the point of best practice. When it comes to endpoint security, there are many different technology solutions in the cyber security market. What the top solutions all share is their ability to uniquely bundle security capabilities into a technology solution that organisations, or individuals, can use to protect their data’s Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (or CIA for short, which are the cornerstones of the IT industry). Based on what we’ve seen in the cyber security market over the last 20-years, we’d argue that implementing these security solutions excellently is more important than choosing one security solution over another.

We’re not saying that all endpoint security solutions are built equally (ever used a free anti-virus before? #faceplant). Yes, you and I do need to do our homework before we invest in a specific security solution. Why? To ensure that it would support your business now and in the future:

  • Is Solution A easy to manage (cost and time efficient) once you have it in place?
  • Does Solution B enable you to comply with local or international legislation, such as GDPR, more easily?
  • Which solution, A or B, can scale better with your organisation throughout its business cycles (amount of people in your organisation) and growth requirements (integration with other technologies)?

Knowing which questions to ask to find a near-perfect match for your organisation, however, is a discussion for another day.

So, when we look at the benefits that Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 can offer organisations below – and there are many – we’re approaching it from the point of best practice, i.e. this is what you can get if you implement it right.

Upgrading to Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 is Easy

  • Save time: You can upgrade your Kaspersky Endpoint Security to version 11 in four steps yourself (more on this below), or you can contact us to help you out. We’ve done it so many times, we know what to look out for to run a Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 upgrade project smoothly, from start to finish (expert tip: project planning is critical in any technology roll-out or upgrade).
    During August and September, we can help your organisation upgrade to Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 at special/discounted prices.
  • Save money: Kaspersky Endpoint Security licences are version agnostic, i.e. if you already have Kaspersky Endpoint Security licences, you don’t need to purchase new licences to upgrade to the new version (make sure, though, that the licences are enough for the number of endpoints you want to protect and are still active).
    Don’t have enough security licences or are your licences expiring soon? We can help you licence the leading security solutions efficiently, and at great value-for-money.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 Features: Out with Old, In with the New

Top Three New or Improved Features in Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11:

  1. Integrated Endpoint Sensor component of Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response 1.0: Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 boasts integration to an automated threat intelligence component, called an IoC Scanner, which basically searches for threats in an IT infrastructure without taking much system resources. Just like a doctor would use symptoms to diagnose a patient’s disease before treating him/her, the IoC Scanner checks the system for malicious activity patterns on which IT administrators can act, quickly and smartly. Protecting systems against new (zero-day threats) or advanced persistent threats, like ransomware and fileless malware, requires smart tools that can look for answers without us having to hold its proverbial hand at every step.
  2. Behaviour Detection, Exploit Prevention and a Remediation Engine and for servers: For the first time since a basic system event monitoring functionality became available in Kaspersky Lab’s consumer solutions in 2009, the automated SIEM-capability is extended to servers. System Watcher offers an alternative to identifying new threats and protecting against crypto-malware. Where the traditional “a backup a day keeps the ransomware at bay” approach doesn’t cover it, System Watcher steps up to the challenge.
  3. Lightweight mode for Threat Protection: Let’s think about the business impact of “reduced installer and update sizes by 45%” and “10% reduction in RAM consumption” for a moment because it’s possible in the new Kaspersky Endpoint Security version. Organisations can get maximum security without draining resources or slowing systems down. Tech that does its job quickly and quietly means business can happen faster – that makes everyone happy.

Features No Longer Supported in Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11:

(Applicable to Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 for Windows)

  1. Quarantine
  2. IM Anti-Virus
  3. Vulnerability Scan

What-to-do Checklist: Upgrading to Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 (DIY Route)

Here’s a list of the steps to follow when upgrading your existing Kaspersky installation to Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11, as recommended by Kaspersky Lab.

Note: It’s intended to be a checklist, not a how-to guide:

  1. Upgrade the Administration Server and Console
  2. Migrate tasks and policies
  3. Upgrade Network Agent and Kaspersky Endpoint Security
  4. Complete migration

Closing Thoughts: Use It (or Lose Out)

Whether you use Kaspersky Endpoint Security 11 or a different security technology, make sure it is implemented correctly. This will help you get a good Return on Investment on your data security strategy by using the intended security features, built into the technology products you buy, well. If you’re not sure whether a tech investment checks all the boxes, get a second opinion from your preferred security provider. If your organisations’ security products are implemented well, they will strengthen your overall ability to fight off cyber threats and protect your data’s CIA. And in today’s hyper-connected-hacked world, we can all use an extra hand to get it right, the first time.

Q: How does Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response integrate with Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business — what are the instant benefits of this integration?

A: For those customers who are considering utilizing Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response, deployment will be made significantly easier if used in conjunction with Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business. Thanks to the native integration with our flagship endpoint solution, Kaspersky EDR doesn’t require separate agents to be installed on every endpoint, because Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business already includes an EDR agent module.

This means that, upon deployment of Kaspersky EDR, companies will have simplified access to EDR capabilities such as:

  • An IoC (indicators of compromise) scanner that proactively scans endpoints to reveal anomalies and security breaches;
  • response tools, that identify and remediate incidents in real time;
  • investigation capabilities that provide visualizations of the entire attack timeline and reveal its root cause.
